The Step

"The force of love presents you with a whole array of Personal Emotional Trainers disguised as everyday people, but they are all training you to choose love!" - Rhonda Byrne (the Power)

Sarah was walking slowly. She knew that she was early today. There are ten more minutes for Jane's bus to come. Sarah reached the bus bay. No one she knew was there then. Instead she found a poor lady and her son sitting on the bench where she used to sit. They looked unclean. Sarah didn't want to sit near them. She stood a little away from the bench. The poor lady's son started crying and his mother looked at the people around her.

Her eyes met Sarah's and Sarah looked away. The lady took the child and started coming near the people and asked for money. Sarah saw that and started thinking whether or not to give some money to her. The lady went near all but didn't come near Sarah. Sarah felt a relief. She wondered whether the lady might have felt the hostility in her eyes.

Sarah saw the lady crossing the road and asking for food and money near the vendors. One after other, they all ignored her and sent her away. She came back to the bench and started shouting at the child. The child was still crying. Now Sarah started feeling pity as the child reminded her of her daughter. She looked straight to the sky and soon her eyes started to flood. She felt that she should do something. But she found it a bit difficult to move. The should I or shouldn't I question kept playing in her head.

When Sarah turned to look at them, she saw that again the lady was moving towards the vendors for food. There was no use. As the lady moved to the third shop, Sarah found herself walking in the same direction. She felt determined now.

Sarah came near the tea-shop and asked the shop keeper to give some milk to the child. She bought tea for the lady also and paid for that. Sarah saw the happy mother. She smiled at her.

Sarah felt that this simple act of kindness apparently gave much content to her heart . That day while walking back home with Jane, Sarah knew what would be Jane's bedtime story today.
